[Elric is in his room. The door's open; he's already been out and had a look around. He looks quite ridiculous in the jumpsuit, but doesn't seem to care much. He holds up the gun thoughtfully provided him by the Admiral. He's got it by the right end, but it's clear from his expression and the way he's got the thing in his hand that he's never used one before and does not like it at all.]

Would one of you be good enough to show me how to use this ... object?

[Elric looks up and holds the gun in a way that would make any gun-safety expert scream in horror—the barrel pointing right at Ardent. Luckily for everyone, his finger is not on the trigger.]

And yet it is so small. The longbows of Phum are as tall as a man; I cannot see how something that would fit in my pocket could fire anything with great force.

The two ports since I've arrived have been in modern, Roundworld times, from what I'm told. They didn't need much explaining, unless you were alien to it. [Like he was. He frowned, and gave his make-shift hood a tug.]

Roundworld? [He shrugs.] It is all alien to me; my world is so far removed from that of the others that it might as well be legend. Another such world is no great burden.

Guns? So not good. Since something took my Scythe, I'm guessing that's all we get to defend ourselves. As a rule? I don't use them. I hate those things. [She gives her gun a glare.]

[Shrug, slight frown.] Find something sword-like. This place is pretty bare, but there's always something you can use as a weapon.

You pull the trigger and it misses the target, makes a loud noise, and pulls everything hostile that's not deaf within a fifty-yard radius onto you. Then they all tear you apart while you're trying to reload it.

You can blow big holes in people with the regular ones, though. Hurts.

I know the basics, I could show you if you like. Can't say how well I'd be able to show you how to aim. Guns aren't my preferred weapon in the least.
